Webkinz Recipes and More!

Are your children having trouble figuring out recipes on Webkinz World? These unique toys that allow children and young teens to create an online pet can be much more complicated than you'd expect.
Despite tutorials on the main Webkinz site, and despite numerous websites devoted to these adorable pets, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what to do! This is especially true for the younger children like mine and for recipes in particular. After I helped them get past creating 'gunk' (the stuff that is produced from failed recipes), I thought it would be great to share some helpful pointers.

How do you find the recipes- On Webkinz world there are recipes so you can let your pet try something new.

You have to have 3 specific different foods and put them either in the oven, in the sandwich maker, the blender, or on the barbeque. But how do you find these recipes? There are 2 different ways. One of the ways is to watch TV by turning on your Webkinz television and selecting the cooking channel.
Chef Gazpacho tells you many great and interesting recipes and they are always different. This is a great way to learn exactly what works! If you do not own a TV you need not rush to buy one for your pet.
A simple alternative is to visit the W-Shop and just buy a recipe book, although in my experience many of these recipes are not as interesting. The different cooking appliances- For cooking there are four different appliances. There is a stove, a sandwich maker, a BBQ, and a blender. While it's great to have all these different appliances to make your pet some great food, you must be careful! If you put the wrong ingredients into an appliance you will end up with 'gunk'. We will cover 'gunk' a bit more in a moment, but for now just know that your pet will not eat it.
For example; if you were making a sandwich on the oven then you will get gunk, but if you make a sandwich in the sandwich maker, you will succeed and have a delicious sandwich for your Webkinz pet to enjoy.

The oven is used to make things such as spaghetti and pies.

The sandwich maker is obviously to make sandwiches, the blender is to make things such as smoothies and milkshakes, and the BBQ is for making things like hamburgers.
To find more recipes for the BBQ or blender, remember you can buy a cook book, it will contain many delicious recipes for your Webkinz.

The gunk problem- If you decide to experiment with recipes and they don't turn out right they will turn into gunk. You will also create gunk if you try a recipe on the wrong appliance or even just use the incorrect ingredient.

However, even though your Webkinz does not like gunk, you can sell it at the W-shop.

There are many different colors of gunk, but it's all worth about the same amount of Kinzcash.

Batman is in Gotham City, and the Party is On!

Batman is a timeless classic that never loses his appeal.
Batman cakes, party decorations, party favors, and party packs are easy to find in party supply stores, online, or in department stores.

Invitations are easy to make.
Just purchase black construction paper, cut into bat shapes, use a silver gel pen to invite the guests to "Gotham City" to help Batman and Robin fight crime! Send invitations early, at least two weeks in advance, and send a reminder, including a map with directions to "the bat cave" specifying again the date and time to drop off and pick up guests.
Enlist the aid of neighborhood babysitters, teenaged siblings, or relatives to help direct the Gotham City traffic, and the caped crusaders are certain to be victorious! Batman Party Games and Activities Using inexpensive 36 or 45-inch wide black fabric, such as double knit, cut out simple capes (rectangles that can be tied by the corners) with pinking shears, and have one of your helpers paint on mask outlines and/or small bats, onto the faces of the guests.

Simple games are the best for younger children's parties, and "Follow the Joker" is always a hit.
Each child can have a turn at being the leader.
Put small bat stickers (bats can be cut out of black construction paper, and glued with crazy glue, if you can't find bat stickers) on the lens of inexpensive flashlights (easily found at dollar shops) so that when the room is dark, each child can send his own Gotham City bat signal! Using a large clear or white sheet of plastic, paint a black bat in the center, and put it in the middle of the floor.

Allow each guest to make an airplane out of black construction paper, then each gets several chances to fly their plane onto the bat to win a prize.
A fun and easy game is a pass the "bat-ball" relay.

Guests divide up into teams of five or so.
Each team is given a plastic ball, onto which you have affixed batman stickers, painted names of villains, like Joker, Penguin, and Cat Woman.
The teams form a line, with the person at the head of the line holding the ball.
The first player passes the ball over his head to the person standing behind him. That person passes it between his legs to the next person, continuing until the person at the beginning of the line is again holding the ball.

Prizes can be given for the first team to complete the game, and all the runners up.
BATMAN PARTY FAVORS AND GOODY BAGS Fill a Batman party favor bag with batman stickers, toy "bat-a-rangs," comic books, coloring books, and washable bat markers, and Batman fruit snacks and other related toys. Consider giving the batman balls used in the bat-ball relay as gifts for the big game winners. Bat Menu Poison Ivy Floats, made with ginger ale, Lemon-lime soft drink mix, and lime sherbet.
Bat Sandwiches, simple PB&J sandwiches cut out with a bat cookie cutter.
Bat Cake and ice cream.

Kids' Backpacks - The Benefits of Making Your Kids Carry Their Own Backpacks

Bringing children along on a hike can be a challenge especially if it is their first time. Most parents would store the necessary items into their own backpacks and allow their kids to roam free on the hike. However, it is also a good idea to allow your kids freedom in packing their own bags and carrying them around by themselves.
First off, you would of course need to purchase a kids' sized backpack for them.
Remember to get one that is proportionate with their body size - too large and it will hinder their movements on the hike, too small and it would not be able to fit all the items that they need. Something you should look out for in a backpack is the number of pockets.
The more pockets the bag has, the more small items you can slip into it.
For example, bite sized chocolates or biscuits that your children can nibble on just in case they get tired during the climb. You would also want to put in other equipment such as batteries and torch lights in the pockets of the bag.
Besides pockets, another factor that you should look into for your kids' backpack would be handles and straps.

You can try buying a backpack which is just one size larger so that your kid won't grow out of it too soon! Removable handles greatly help as well because you can detach and reattach them easily, as and when required.

Additionally, try and get a backpack in the most durable yet lightweight material you can possibly find.
Remember that you do not want to burden your children! Assist them in packing their bags but ultimately, it is up to them what they want to carry and what they want to leave behind.

You are not only appealing to their sense of adventure but are helping them assert their independence as well.

Electronic Document Management Systems

Document management systems, DMS for short, are systems used to trail and store images of tangible paper documents or electronic documents.

The system functions through either a computer system or a set of computer programs that do all the work. These systems are often treated as vital components of enterprise content management (ECM) systems.
It is also recognized as being related to systems for workflow, document imaging, record management systems, and digital asset management.
How it first began Although foreign to most people, the idea of software systems managing images of hard documents, be it paper or pictures, is actually old. The idea behind this kind of system began in the 1980s; vendors began to research and develop software that would manage these types of files. These systems were known as electronic document management systems (EDM). Eventually, later developers began to focus on systems that would focus on managing electronic documents.

These systems managed the files that were created and stored on a computer's local file system.

Early systems could only manage proprietary formats or a very limited number of file formats. The evolution of electronic document management systems Continued development of EDM systems steered it towards a direction where it was eventually able to manage security, electronic documents, workflow, collaborations tools and many more.

An EDM system basically allows any organization to receive faxes and forms and save copies of it as digital images. The documents are then stored in a depository for future reference or use.
One of the two main advantages of such systems is that they do not require physical space for storage, at least the digital documents themselves.

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of EDM systems is that they can withdraw documents from the depository at a very quick rate. The EDM system is responsible for extracting text from the document.
The EDM system is able to retrieve files in quick fashion because of a text-indexer function.

EDM systems of today There are a lot of EDM systems out there in the market today.

One of the most common features among all of them is that they can store documents in their native format, i.
e.
Microsoft Word or PDF formats. However, recent trends have shown an increasing tendency to require users to store their documents in an HTML format.

Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is the markup language used in displaying webpages on a web browser.

This requirement makes it necessary to import all documents into an html format.
The idea behind such a change is that doing so will making looking for documents a whole lot easier.
Modern EDM systems that rely on this method can act like search engines, such as Google, Bing or Yahoo. Why organizations use EDM systems Organizations spend a lot of money in labor when it comes to filling documents.
A significant portion of these files are also lost or misfiled. A survey even notes how more people spend more time looking for something than actually reading what it is they were looking for.

Electronic document management systems make storage and retrieval faster and more efficient, thus lowering operational costs.

Top 5 Tips for Buying a Printer

Buying office equipment such as new printers or toner cartridges can be a hassle. Brands, specifications and print quality are just some of the things you need to consider; forgetting a vital aspect might mean you end up with equipment which doesn't suit your needs.

With this in mind, here are the top 5 things to take into account when buying a printer.

1.

Printing activity Are you doing a lot of printing or just occasional print jobs? The volume of printed pages you produce on a daily basis is a huge factor when considering buying a new printer, as it will ultimately influence the device that you need. Buying the wrong printer for your needs could be a disaster, and may end up with you wasting money on something unnecessary.
For this reason, if you print over 250 sheets per day from your office or home, it may be more cost effective to buy a laser printer, particularly if you print mostly text documents in black and white, in which case you could get a mono printer which uses single toner cartridges rather than multiple different colours.

2. Ink or toner cartridges? A laser printer which uses toner rather than ink is cost effective in terms of how much each page costs to print.
Toner cartridges will tend to last longer than ink and so are favoured by those who do large volumes of printing - for example in large offices.

3.

Which brand of toner cartridges? When looking at ink or toner cartridges, it's important to consider the brand of cartridges you're buying and whether they will be readily available if you need to buy more in a hurry.

Be sure before you buy that the toner cartridges are compatible with your particular printer, and always go for quality if you care about the finish of your print jobs. 4.

Multifunctional printers You may have heard the phrase 'MFP' in printer shops or online.
Many people buying printers for the first time aren't aware of these 'all-in-one' printers.
MFP stands for 'multifunction printer' and, as you would expect, these printers have several functions, all in the one device.
They are great for a variety of print related jobs, often serving as printers, fax machines, scanners and photocopiers all at once. Saving time, money and space by buying one of these multifunctional devices may be a wise option, particularly if your print needs are varied.

5.
Printer speed and other specifications Specifications for printers are often difficult for the average consumer to understand, unless you know specifically what you're looking for.

Printer speed, for example, is measured in pages per minute (PPM), and measures the speed at which a printer will produce prints. It's important to remember, though, that print jobs will vary.

For example, a colour page will take longer to produce than simply a page of black text.

You might also have heard of something called DPI or dots per inch.
This specifies the number of ink dots per inch, a metric which will vary depending on which type of printer technology your printer uses. A laser printer using toner cartridges, for example, will be in the range of 600 to 1,800 DPI. A dot matrix printer might have a DPI in the region of 60 to 90.

Freelance Design Jobs Are Abundant

That means a web designer will use graphics and interface to attract the eye of a consumer.
Graphic designers also have freelance opportunities available on the World Wide Web.

Their responsibilities can include creating different advertisements in magazines and online. They must also obtain formal education before a successful career is developed. Interior designers may also have the opportunity to pursue the perfect career of their dreams with the help of the internet.

Check Out These Checkers and Backgammon Sets

The game of backgammon is one of the oldest on Earth, dating back thousands of years to the first civilizations on the planet.

The rules are simple but the strategy is complex and both young and old players can enjoy the game. Combination boards allow multiple games to be played together.

Checkers and backgammon boards combine both the dice game with the classic match of advancing your pieces on a checkers set. Indeed, a combination board allows you to play both backgammon and checkers along with chess, the greatest game of skill and strategy.
These combination boards can be found at any game store or many retail outlets.
Specific designs have many qualities and capabilities that cannot be found elsewhere.

A basic backgammon or checkerboard cost approximately ten to twenty dollars and includes the rules and pieces required to play both games.

These sets are the basic requirements needed to play on a table with friends, but it is not always so easy to break out the game.

Indeed, during a car ride or a windy day outdoors, it may be difficult to decide where a piece that has fallen off the board should be set.

With this problem, the solution is a magnetic chess, checkers or backgammon board, allowing each piece of all three games to be firmly planted upon the board, resisting all efforts to be toppled over.
The entire face of the board is magnetized and each piece has a small insert of metal, so that they hold firm without being too difficult to dislodge, even for younger hands. A magnetic set only costs a little more than the normal boards.

Some are in the range of around fifteen dollars, which is a very reasonable price.
Some game boards expand beyond the basic rules and capabilities.
The best example of rejuvenated classic games is Chess 4, a board with double the spaces, double the pieces, and double the available players.

This adaptation turns the game from a two player duel into a free for all, pitting classic black and white against newcomer's gold and silver.

Flip the board over and play four-player backgammon, moving all your pieces across the board before your opponents.
A checkers and backgammon set is an easy and inexpensive way to bring your friends or family together for game night. Check out local stores for combination sets and get ready to face off on any number of battlefronts.

Anti-Bullying Programs, Unintended Consequences, and the Golden Rule

Sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

So says the children's rhyme that harkens all the way back to the 1800's.

Oh, if only it were so. Meanness abounds still, and in today's toxic, Internet-happy society, it's sometimes taken to new levels--all too often with dire consequences.

Indeed, nine children reportedly took their own lives during the 2012-13 school year.

The culprit: cyberbullying.
Meanwhile, about 16% of our high schoolers have been victimized via the Internet, with girls targeted twice as often as boys: 22% vs.
11%. Just this past September 9, a Florida 12-year-old, Rebecca Sedwick, jumped to her death from an abandoned cement factory tower after being "terrorized" for months via online message boards and texts by as many as 15 girls.

The result: just yesterday, October 15, authorities arrested two girls, 12 and 14, on third degree felony aggravated stalking charges. The "tipping point," said Sheriff Grady Judd, was when one of them allegedly posted the following on Facebook on Saturday: "Yes, ik [I know] I bullied REBECCA nd she killed her self but IDGAF ["I don't give a f***]." She claims her Facebook account was hacked, that she hadn't written the post.

.

. Meanwhile, the girls' parents apparently were uncooperative, refused to bring them to the police station, and did not stop their daughters' use of social media.
Really.

And, of course, hurtful behavior is not limited to the cyber variety, and that's borne out by the following statistics: About 56% of all students have witnessed a bullying event while at school. One out of every 7 children, kindergarten through 12th grade, has been a bully or been bullied.

More than 71% of students said bullying is an on-going problem.

The top years for bullying are from 4th to 8th grade.

Each month, about 282,000 high schoolers are reportedly attacked.
About 10% of students drops out or changes schools because of repeated bullying.
No wonder, then, that October is recognized as National Bullying Prevention Month and that 49 states-all except Montana-have anti-bullying laws on the books.
Even Congress has jumped into the fray with the re-launching of its Anti-Bullying Caucus, helped along by Lee Hirsch, director of the documentary Bully, and the Kennedys, too. Said its chairman, Representative Mike Honda: "We must acknowledge publicly that we have a bullying epidemic in America.
This is a problem that is both profound and pervasive." Meanwhile, this summer Montgomery County's District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced the creation of the county's first-ever cyberbullying and bullying task force report and manual.

It offers advice and suggestions for dealing with the problem and is available to all county school officials and parents.

At the same time, all across the country our schools continue to tackle children's hurtful behavior head-on.

Indeed, many Montgomery County districts have long since implemented the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, which, for starters, comes with a cost of $1,500 to $3,200 for just the School-Wide Guide and Teacher Guide.

Nevertheless, bullying persists. Bottom line: Bullying has captured everyone's attention, and, for some, is a money maker, too.
The upshot, though: unintended, negative consequences.

A recent University of Texas in Arlington study found that "bullying prevention programs in school generally increase incidences of physical and emotional attacks among children by teaching kids about the ins and outs of bullying.
" As lead study author Dr.
Seokjin Jeong explains, "The schools with interventions say, 'You shouldn't do this,' and 'You shouldn't do that.
' But through the programs, the students become highly exposed to what a bully is, and they know what to do or say when questioned by parents or teachers.

" His solution: "Move beyond individual risk factors and focus on systemic change within schools.

" But remember that kindness begins at home, so share this simple, do-it-yourself problem solver with your kids at every turn: "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them for this is the Law and the Prophets.
" (Matthew 7:12, Standard English Version) Plus, by the way, the Golden Rule happens to appear in the scriptures of almost every religion, including Confucianism: "Try your best to treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself, and you will find this is the shortest way to benevolence.
" (Confucianism. Mencius VII.

A.
4) Makes a lot of sense even in this day and age of computers, iPads, and smartphones, no?

Best Tips For Finding Your Online Classes

You probably know that there are online classes out there, but sometimes finding them can prove to be a bit difficult.
The first thing you will need to do is an online search, looking for online accredited schools. There are actually websites that maintain directories of these schools, and such directories will be able to easily point you in the right direction.

Remember that you need to find a school that IS accredited.

There are plenty of 'schools' out there that will claim to be providing education and even a degree, but they tend to take your money and leave you out in the cold. Even if they are offering legitimate courses, you will not find your money being put to good use.
The problem is that the college needs to be accredited, and if it is not, your degree will not be accepted at any major workplace.

Comparing prices is another important part of the process.

As we've said before, there are plenty of different colleges out there, and you want to make sure you choose one that is priced right.
Don't just settle for the first college you find! Many people make this mistake, and many people tend to regret it after the fact.

You do NOT want to be someone with an expensive education that you regret! When you do find the right school, you will need to make sure that you can handle it. In order to attend an internet based school you will need quite a bit of resolve. The biggest problem people have found with online schools is simply that they cannot concentrate on their work, and they do not have a 'drive' for learning.

When one is in a conventional classroom, that drive is provided by the teacher. If you are in an offline environment you will need to do some things to keep yourself interested.

The best thing that you could do is create a schedule for yourself that you will stick to. Through this you will have a goal to meet, and that goal will be your reason for staying motivated. Going through independent courses at home can be extremely difficult, but by no means are they impossible. You simply need to make sure you stick with it, and of course make sure you do the best you can.
It's never going to be easy, but as long as you follow those basic steps, you should be able to come out on top.
That being said, it's time for you to do a simple internet search.

You will find the schools that are providing online programs, and see how they will work for you.

When it comes to education, the sky is the limit.

Important Things To Remember When Pursuing An Online Degree

For most type of jobs, a college degree is a common prerequisite.
The room for growth for any worker who has earned a college degree is far bigger compared to those who don't.

Recently, there has been a steady and noticeable increase of people obtaining degree courses and professional certification through distant learning or online education.
People have varied reasons for deciding to pursue education online but 2 of the most common reasons are flexibility and affordability. Normally, people who study online degree courses are people who are already working but are looking at further expanding their skill sets, and, thus, have a minimal time to go to and from a regular school. Those whose time and money won't afford them to pursue a regular campus course have an opportunity to earn a college degree online.
For them, online education presents convenience, efficiency and flexibility.
A student can listen to a downloaded audio lecture while commuting or while on their way to and from work. Online degrees also present an opportunity to pursue advanced studies and enhance other professional qualifications based on a prior degree.

It also makes more economic sense to get a degree online because tuition fees for online degrees are usually lower than regular campus degrees.
Moreover, the student doesn't have to relocate near a campus which also entails additional expenses. There are several things one has to look into before deciding to pursue an online degree.

In general, it is important to thoroughly check and do ample research about institutions and accredited colleges that offer online programs.

A degree opens the door to a lot of opportunities, however, be sure that you don't end up obtaining a degree from colleges that don't have proper accreditation, otherwise your degree wouldn't have any value and everything will be a waste of time and money for you. College accreditation is one important aspect to look at when pursuing an online degree. Some employers might be skeptical of online degree courses but all of them would look for an accreditation and this earns their respect.

Accreditation for online schools covers several aspects from course content to method of delivery. Online colleges and regular colleges use the same criteria and standards to obtain accreditation.

All of these are evaluated and validated.
This process guarantees students with the same level of quality education one can get from traditional campus education.
So, if you are looking at pursuing an online degree be sure you are getting one from an accredited institution.

Selecting Memorable Kindergarten Graduation Quotes

I will share with you a personal experience of the power of kindergarten graduation ceremonies. I was graduating from university when I heard that there were problems with the ceremony. I was worried because I was away from the country and my parent was the only one trying to organize things.

What happened next was quite amazing. One of the local priests came along and decided that he was going to lead the prayers and the organization.
He gave what can only be described as a marvelous speech with a ten point program to succeed.

I treasured those moments and have kept them on video for my own children to see when I grow up.

This gave me insight into the process of trying to created memorable graduation quotes for the kindergarten.
I have decided to come up with some tips on what are the best things to do to ensure that you can handle this sensitive issue with the requisite diligence that your child would expect from you. Keep a record of all the quotes that you used for the kindergarten graduation because the child might want to refer back to them when they are grown up or when they are just reminiscing about the occasion.

If you destroy these quotes, it is highly unlikely that they will ever be recovered.
Tell the child in their own language during the kindergarten graduation what is going on and you might even want to interpret the quotes and comments that have been made.

This gives them an immediate appreciation of the situation and when they grow older they can go into the detail.

Invite people to the kindergarten graduation who are good communicators particularly when it comes to children. This will pay off in the long run because everyone will understand what is going on.

If you invite a very boring speaker then your party will fall flat on its face, causing you damage and destroying the reputation that you may have built.

It will also not be a particularly pleasant experience for the children.
Be innovative in the way that you research and disseminate the memorable quotations for the kindergarten graduation.

One family impressed me with a front hall display with post stick notes that held all the things that people had thought about the event.

They also had a guest book which allowed for more formal compliments. Imagine the joy of that child when they grow up and see the history of their kindergarten graduation reflected in the written quotations.
Remember that the quotations will also include reflections from all those who participated in the organization and implementation of the kindergarten graduation ceremony.

It is therefore fitting that the children themselves are given the opportunity to express their own personal thought about the proceedings.

This is what the Montessori system is all about. The occasion belongs to the child and they are stakeholders who must be allowed to express themselves.
You the parent also have a role to play in the creation of the memorable quotes. At a later stage your child might be interested to note your perspective on proceedings.

How To Help Children Struggling to Cope in a Sports Session and PE Lesson

How do you help children in your Sports Session or even PE Lesson to cope with the demands? For an experienced coach this may be less of a challenge. For other coaches still learning their trade it can become confusing or even seem like a lost cause.

It is never a lost cause.

We work hard in our sessions and constructing coaching plans. So when a participant, particularly a child is struggling to cope with the demands we are disappointed because we want them to learn as much as possible from the session.

If a child walks away without taking any learning point.
You have not done your job.
As coaches we must anticipate the need to adapt sessions to the needs of children and young people.

It is almost impossible to deliver a session that is progressive without 'tweaking' the session a little bit.

Therefore when a child is struggling to cope chances are that the coach is to blame due to poor planning or lack of anticipation/experience.
But lets not dwell on that.
We will tell you the very fundamentals that are working for Run Fun Starz Coaches: 1. Manipulating Objects By manipulating objects I am referring to changing the way equipment is used or even not used.

For example in a Hurdle Sprint drill the hurdle itself may be slightly to high for a child in the session.
You can make it easier by using a smaller hurdle or even replace the hurdle completely and use a Traffic Cone instead. 2.
Take advantage of Space Available More often than not there is lots of space available.

So use it.

This is one of the most common and basic adaptations coaches apply.

Depending on the sport of course changing the area of activity/space just a little can make the biggest difference to the child.

For instance if a child cannot dribble through a restricted space in a Basketball drill, make the area bigger for them to manoeuvre around.

3.

Give Hints & Ask Questions Sometimes the best thing to do is to let the child figure it out for themselves.

But guide them through it.

Coaching a child to demonstrate a Short Pass in Football may require you to name the steps as they kick or question what the next step is to complete the short pass.

4. Imitation This similar to demonstration. The difference is you as a coach perform the drill with the child as they copy your moves, technique, strategy and whatever you aiming to coach. It will allow you to check for understanding.
More importantly it will place you in the shoes of the child to experience as well as observe first hand what they are doing incorrectly.

Allow the child to imitate you step by step.
It's like learning to tie your shoe laces, it helps to do it slowly and in stages that can be remembered.

5.

Involve other Children This is also about making the session easier for you as a coach.
If you delegate a little responsibility to other children to help their peers it can work wonders. For example when practicing a balancing movement in Gymnastics ask children to support each other from the back/side if it is too hard to balance without stability.
6.

Allow adequate Practice Unfortunately allowing children to practice is something coaches still underestimate.
The best coaches allow 'play to go on' sometimes because often it is only by trial and error children learn.
It is important not to rush children.
They might be able to do a perfect Forearm one week and the next they cannot even hold the racket properly and vice versa. This part of development; which brings me to the next point.

7.

Implement a Transitional Stage This is a sub-transitional stage for children and young people who are lacking competence in a skill. It is comparable to a 'safety net' given to talented late developing athletes to compensate for their slower progress. The sub-transitional stage has no specific time frame in which the child should grasp the skill/technique. It is a way to monitor progress according to the ability of the child concerned only and manipulating their strengths.
This list is not exhaustive of course.

Mastering Mathematics - Absolute Value

Absolute value is an important concept in mathematics. The duality of absolute value makes this concept problematic and hard to grasp for students.
Yet this need not be the case. When looking at absolute value for what it really is, that of the distance from a given point to 0 on a number line, we can put this abstraction into its proper perspective.

Let us explore this topic in more detail so that it never presents a problem again.

The absolute value of a number is simply its distance to 0 on a number line. The symbol used for absolute value is the straight brackets "| |" with a number or variable placed inside.
Thus |3| = 3 because 3 is 3 units from 0 on the number line. The duality of absolute value comes into play because the absolute value of both 3 and its additive inverse, or -3, are the same, namely 3.

Both 3 and -3 are 3 units from 0 on the number line.
The only thing to remember with absolute value is that if a number is positive then the absolute value is equal to the given number; however, if the number is negative, then the absolute value is the negative or opposite of the number.
This seems all too simple.

So why does this concept present problems? Well introduce a variable into the absolute value expression and all hell breaks out---literally. The reason is simple: a variable stands for some unknown number.

The key word in the previous sentence is unknown. That is, we do not know whether the variable stands for a positive or negative number.
Take the expression |x|. What does this equal? Well that all depends. Is x negative or positive? If x is positive, then the expression |x| is simply equal to x; however, if x is negative, then the expression |x| is equal to -x because the "-" symbol in front of x makes this quantity positive. Remember two negatives become a positive.

Read the preceding again because this is where all the "sticky-ness" comes into play. Most students will say erroneously that the |x| = x because they fail to consider the duality of absolute value.

That is, when we do not know what is inside the absolute value symbol, we need to consider both cases; that is, when what is inside is positive, and when it is negative. If we do this, then absolute value will never be a problem again. To make this clear let x = 3.
Then |x| = |3| = 3 = x; however, if x = -3, then |x| = |-3| = -(-3) = 3 = -x. So do not cower when you see or hear absolute value.

Just remember that all this means is the distance to 0 on a number line, and that one needs to consider both the positive and negative cases when dealing with a variable expression.
If you do this, you will never shrink before such expressions. You can then add yet another feather to your mathematical cap.

Wholesome Online Activities for Your Kids

There are so many things that you can find for your children to do online that it can sometimes become a bit overwhelming. Video games, educational activities, interactive websites, and websites of favorite cartoon personalities all compete to make the decision of what to allow your kids to do online even harder. One of the favorite online activities of both parents and their children are coloring pages.

Kids love to color. It allows them to express themselves artistically in a way that other activities can't.

Coloring pages can be the perfect outlet for kids to create something to be proud of without having to draw the picture from scratch which can be overwhelming for some kids.
Coloring also helps build hand-eye coordination and can serve as a spring board for other types of artistic expression. All in all, coloring is a great activity for young children.
And let's face it; there is no shortage of coloring pages to be found online.

From sites hosted by huge names such as Disney and Nickelodeon to personal, individually owned sites, there is a lot of free coloring to be found online.

The best part about all of these coloring activities is that they are free.
All you need to do is print off the coloring pages and supply the crayons, colored pencils, markers, or paints; you've found a way to keep your child occupied for hours.

Sounds great, huh? While it is possible to find a lot of great content online, there is a downside to all of these free coloring activities.

Many sites only offer a small selection of coloring sheets and they may not be of the highest quality.

Many free coloring sheet sites are also poorly organized and rarely offer any educational content.

Popular character sheets such as Spongebob Squarepants and Bratz can become monotonous and boring, and they have no educational value.
There is an alternative, though.
I found this great site that offers a variety of quality coloring sheets. Many of them have educational themes, and they are all organized so that you can easily find exactly what you are looking for. Some of the categories highlighted on this site include Wonders of the World, Insects, Dog Breeds, and Birds. These free coloring sheets help children become aware of the world around them and offer them a creative outlet where they can freely express themselves.

And all of the content is free of charge.

Many sites offer free low quality content but then charge for content with better quality.

This one is different than anything that I've ever found for my kids online.

Wooden Playhouses For Outdoor Recreation

With all the excess energy our children have its often difficult and very exhausting keeping them constantly entertained.

It's important that our kids get the exercise they crave for their development and fitness.

But many parents struggle to find the time due to work commitments or the money to constantly take their kids out to play or put them in daycare.
A simple answer and one that is becoming more and more popular is to create a play area for your child in your own back garden.
Play equipment such as slides, swings and sand pits are very popular but the favourite piece of equipment for most parents now has to be the wooden playhouse. These are fantastic for your children to play in and can provide hours upon hours of educational, imagination building play within a safe and secure environment.
Having a wooden playhouse in your back garden can give the parent great piece of mind knowing that their child is in a safe place where they can keep a watchful eye on them as they play happily on their own or with friends.
A playhouse can be turned into a secret den, dragon lair, castle or whatever your child's imagination wished. Wooden playhouses offer fantastic value for money as they can last for many years with very little care or attention. They can be painted to suit your child's needs and trends and can be the 'extra' room your house doesn't have where all the toys can be kept for your child to play with.

A good wooden playhouse can be erected almost anywhere you require it and can always be moved easily if necessary, unlike metal equipment such as swings and frames, wooden playhouses are attractive to the eye and can last longer with minimal effort.
They can also be added quite easily so as your child grows and develops so can the playhouse with monkey bars, swings and slides attached.
Having a playhouse for your child to play in can give their childhood some amazing memories and can help them develop their minds as well as their bodies through imaginative play while getting plenty of fresh air and exercise without them realizing it.

They are perfect for having a friend round to play, for tea or even to hold a little birthday party picnic in, your child will be the envy of their friends and having their own space away from others can do them the world of good while keeping the house a lot more tidy as all the toys can be kept in their very own 'play room' So if you want a safe secure environment where your child can get fresh air, exercise, use their imagination as well as enjoy themselves then look no further than wooden playhouses.

Novell Network Admin Regrets Lack of Documented Education

I am 59 years old.
After 28 years in an untitled position over a 25-user Novell/NT network system in a southeastern sheet metal shop, I am now a full time author and a part-time PC repair tech working our of my home.

Being self-taught, I do not have any documented Novell or NT skills.
Yet the work I performed involved installing and configuring servers, setting up security procedures, running cable, installing and configuring workstations, customizing a mismatch of software to fit into a versatile environment, and much more.

I also wrote custom applications to integrate with sales and accounting software that ran in RPG on an AS400 mainframe.

To the mainframe crowd I was a computer hacker but to our management and engineering personnel I was the entire in-house computer service center. A personal pleasure in solving puzzles led me into computer programming.

Back in the early 1980s, desktop systems were just taking off.
In many companies, existing talent from other areas of the shop manned the PC department. For me, this opened doors into the job of my choice.
I would not change much concerning my computer work, but if I could start over again gaining an official education would be my primary concern. Programming and network management stir my mind and heart.
There is great joy in the sense of accomplishment that comes from releasing folks from the mountains of hand-created paperwork that hinder a society that lacks computer access.
Now days I suppose, it is more a matter of releasing them from inefficient software, virus attacks, and buggy hardware.
Perhaps you wonder why I retired to the life of a writer rather than continuing in a field that challenges my intellect, motivates me to continue learning, and enables me to help people in the process.

It falls back to my lack of an official education.
In the early 1980s, ability sometimes exceeded the power of a certification or a degree.
In fact, both Novell and Microsoft were just beginning to introduce their MCE and NCA and MCSE certification programs.
At the time, I had gainful and rewarding employment.

I thought myself too busy to take any classes and too capable to worry about certifications. The industry moved into a new phrase of skill recognition. I continued to perform without concern for what a future in computer networking might demand. It began in 1979 with a Tandy TRS-80 desktop system. At the time, I was sidelining as a writer.
This moved me to look into the prospects of a computer as an authoring and editing tool.

Around mid-1980, I switched over to an integrated Atari 800XL home computer. It was about that same time that Southeastern Metal Products moved me into the position of Production Control Manager of their 100+ employee shop.

Since the inner workings of a computer intrigued me, I began to ponder how I could utilize a computer in the creation of our shop scheduling paperwork. So I wrote a program, sold the company president on the idea, and before long we had our first IBM XT sitting on my desk. From that point, each machine birthed the next and each custom application generated the need for another until suddenly I found myself installing my first Novell server.

I later added an NT server and several tape, CD, and software backup procedures.
My entire career in computer programming and computer networking involved a multitude of learning sessions.

I was smart and counted myself as such.

I rejected the AS400 and any attempts to integrate it more deeply into our internal company workings.

In so doing, I further distanced myself from the educated crowd.
It was a prideful and foolish behavior pattern.

It is so strange. The very resistance that limited my education also enabled me to resolve software and hardware complications that the AS400 and the certified crowd deemed hopeless. I learned one important lesson: If a programmer can conceive the logic of a problem, he or she can write code that will activate that logic. In 1998, I opened a computer sales and service shop. I often subcontracted to a customer that held the Crown Service and the Burger King systems repair contract.

They paid well, and the pay always covered my travel time as well as my labor time. I remember making a five-hour Sunday run to Asheville, N.
C.
for them only to discover that the supposed system problem was not what they had scheduled me to correct.

They had shipped in an entire new server, but the unit merely needed a $35.
00 external modem - a component that was not included with the new system.

I had passed an Asheville located Best Buy on the way in and offered to go down and pick one up, but the service contractor insisted that I must use their components. I went back home with full pay.

On the following Tuesday, they shipped in a new modem and paid me for a second trip to Asheville.
I plugged the modem into the wall and the server.
The pay came out to 5.5 hours.

What a waste of funds.

Just isolating a select software pack that performs all that I need without causing the system to crash can become the frustrating part of computer management.
But it certainly does feel good when a plan comes together.
I don't have many regrets, but if I could reach back in time and give myself one single piece of advise concerning Novell, Windows, or anything else computer related, it is this: Go to college, and be sure also to collect as many certifications as your field of expertise provides.

Why You Should Teach Your Kids About Money

As a parent, you want to raise your children to be financially independent and to understand the value of a dollar. If your child does not understand the importance of being frugal and saving for a rainy day, chances are they will continue with those same bad habits into adulthood. Everyone wants the best for their children, so teaching them about money at an early age should make a positive impact on their lives.
Let's talk about some simple ways that you can teach your children the value of a dollar and hopefully set them on a path to financial prosperity.
1. Start when they are very young. You are presented with the perfect opportunity to introduce children to money when they are learning to count.

After the child learns that 2 plus 2 equals 4, ask them to add 2 dollars plus 2 dollars.

This will get the ball rolling and help them understand the correlation between money and numbers.

2.

Teach the child the difference between need and want.
This is a simple lesson that even a 4 year old can understand. If you break it down into terms that they can recognize, they should easily grasp the concept. 3. Teach them the value of saving.

Saving money is a habit that many adults do not understand.

This is because they were probably not taught as children the importance of saving money.

If you explain to the child that if they spend all of their money on candy, they will not have enough to buy that one toy that they have been hoping for.

4.

Give them an allowance.

If you simply buy everything for your children and don't make them spend their own money, they will never understand the value of a dollar.

When they want something, tell the child that they will have to buy it with their own money.

The child should have an understanding about what is expected of them when it comes to household chores and grades at school, so if they are holding up their end of the bargain and fulfilling their obligations, they deserve an allowance.
Encourage them to save a portion of their allowance for the things that they might need and to use the rest for the things that they want. 5.

Open a bank account.
Take your child to the bank and open a savings account in their name.

This will give them an opportunity to understand how banking works.

The increase in their balance every week will reinforce the idea that saving money is important and possible.

6. Let them make mistakes.
It is important to let children have a little freedom to choose how they will spend their money. This will give them the opportunity to make some mistakes.
This may seem counter productive to the lesson you are trying to teach, but everybody makes and learns from their mistakes. 7.

Teach them about the dangers of borrowing money.
Understanding that borrowing money can have a negative impact on your financial well being is a concept that many adults do not understand.
Teach your children the pitfalls of spending money that they do not have so that they will avoid doing so in the future.
Using these tips should set your children on a path to financial security.

The Importance of Programmable Logic Controls in Marine Electronics

With ever growing demands for emission reduction and fuel efficiency, specialized and reliable electrical controls for the marine and shipbuilding industry are more in demand than ever.

It doesn't matter what the size of the vessel is, manufacturers that produce everything from small work-boats to large cargo ships are always in search of a reliable source for specialized electrical systems and high quality electronic products. Smart automation solutions and high quality electronic controls are key to reaching greener vessel operations. Regardless of the size of the vessel, it is important that those individuals in charge of operations have access to all relevant information in order to make quick, safe and informed decisions.

A custom control panel with Programmable Logic Control (PLC) has the ability to increase the electrical operations of the engine more accurate by reading and monitoring thousands of calculations each second.

These logic systems are created with the intent of measuring numerous inputs and output variables, as well as providing protection to electrical noise, and resistance to kinetic disturbances. This technology takes full advantage of the control module and boosts the dependability of the system sensors. Additionally, marine system management solutions can lengthen the operating life of the vessel. By automating the control system it provides additional safety and efficiency.

The software used in control automation is designed with specific requirements to provide reliable support. The ability to preserve investments in hardware and engineering in marine vessels is critical to ship owners. Utilizing this monitoring technology, it can help when it comes to predictive maintenance. Predictive maintenance is key to avoiding unplanned costs and even more important, unplanned time that would need to be spent onshore for repairs. Marine electronic systems include low voltage, main switchboards and closed-circuit television.
Alarm Monitoring and Safety Systems (AMS); include a variety of sensors, dependent on its own unique objective.

Electronic modules include various sensors that measure specifics such as temperature, pressure, main propulsion and auxiliary engine output status. Additionally this includes as sensors for speed, level, rudder angle, as well as environmental sensors.
The engine monitoring, alarms, vessel automation, and safety systems significantly assist monitoring and regular maintenance all the while optimizing available power output. Increasing technological advances has led to continual advancements in the maritime industry. When far away from land, it is critical to have the ability to make informed decisions quickly and with confidence.

Finding an electrical solutions partner with expert knowledge and skill can provide economic and operational benefits.

Yahoo Redirect Virus Removal Methods

Irritated by the "Yahoo Redirect Virus"? Well, lets understand what it is and how you can remove it easily.
What is Yahoo Redirect Virus? Redirect infection attaches itself via search engines to your PC. It alters some files and disappears, hence it not easy to detect either.
It cannot be removed by normal anti virus programs.

This virus is created in 1000's of PC's everyday.

How to Detect Redirect Yahoo search Virus on your system? When you search for something on any search engine - Be it yahoo, bing or Google, you get redirected to fake websites at times (sites which you never intended to open). This means your PC is infected with the virus and it's time to get rid of it. How to Fix Redirect Virus? It is not easy to fix this infection.
It comes to your PC in form of Trojan Horse. I am sure you have heard of this infection already many times before.
This is a nasty virus which creeps in to your system, alters some files and disappears.
So you need a system to first scan it and then amend the affected files and folders. To get rid of yahoo search redirecting virus, you must use a program called TDSS Killer in conjunction with Combo Fix.

TDSS Killer helps to scan and search for Trojan Horse on your system and Combo fix then removes the affected files.
Hence clearing out the PC and getting rid of the yahoo redirect infection for good.
These amazing programmes can help you get rid of the virus in just a few minutes.

You will never have to worry about this virus again.
Another neat tip to get rid of this nasty infection is to use proxies while surfing. Web proxies prevent hacking and virus attacks to a great extent. This might prevent the redirect infection to harm your PC as well.

Its surely worth a shot.

Most Common Summer Jobs For Teens 14 and Over

The importance of money nowadays is now a common lesson that parents are teaching to their children no matter how young they are. Kids take their first glimpse into the business world through lemonade stands or maybe even selling Girl Scout cookies. But in this century, money seems to be a more important factor in our daily lives especially with the skyrocketing of the prices of daily needs.
Children now have bigger wants and needs and will usually look for summer jobs to do in order to gain more money. This usually happens when they reach their pre-teens or the adolescence stage which is when they are about 12-14 years of age. Summer jobs for teens usually consist of mowing lawns, baby sitting, or doing household chores. There are the occasional odd jobs like dog walking or gardening.
But this is the century of technology, so kids nowadays don't leave the house to earn money.
Instead, they stay in and use their computers to find jobs to do that not only allow them to earn more but also earn without exerting too much effort.
Teens now avail of easy online jobs like answering surveys, pay-per-click or pay-to-click.

These jobs do not require any work experience at all and are easy and simple.
They earn as much as $2 per survey or even more, depending on the offer of the website that is paying them.
There are other online jobs that kids avail of but the most common are these three listed above.

How to Help Your Tween or Teen Daughter Develop A Concept of Self

It amazes me each time I chat with a young woman how often she refers to others to explain herself.

"My boyfriend says I.

.
.

My mom says that I should.
..
" I want all young women out there to be quiet for just a moment each day to reflect on yourself.
Who are you today? How do you see yourself? What are your dreams? Who do you want to be in 5 years? It's hard isn't it? All the mind chatter gets in the way and you start hearing the "others" voices of who you should be, what you should want...
Take 10 minutes each day.

Set a time to be alone and reflect (meditate).

Visualize who you want to be.
The path will become clearer for you and decisions will be easier if you take the time to consider the possibilities.

Who do you admire? Who makes you look up if mentioned in the news or by a friend? What difference do you want to make? Don't worry about the how, just give yourself the time and make the effort to consider all the possibilities. My challenge to all parents is to allow and be OK with your children thinking about themselves.
What do they want? What is important to them? By doing this you validate them as a human being.

Don't be frightened if it doesn't match up with your expectations. Be open to listening.
This alone is a triumph if they share their thoughts with you.
Understand you gave birth to an individual, not an addition to yourself. Sometimes this is the hardest concept for a parent to grasp.

We are here to help these young people become the leaders of the next generation. It is our job to be the best human we can be and hope and pray they notice.
Mistakes, of course they will make them. So did we! Champion them when they move forward.

Love them either way, but remember be the kind, loving decent parent they deserve.
They may not have the future you planned for them on the radar, but the key is to listen early to the future they see for themselves. You will learn a great deal about them and open up a huge amount of trust and communication by asking them about their thoughts, then quickly shutting up.
If they don't engage immediately, they will...
just give them the space to contemplate.
Don't badger, simply listen.

Sometimes the silence you hear can be deafening!

The Truth About Children's Modeling and Acting All the Way to Seniors!

First off, yes there is plenty of legitimate work available for anyone from babies, kids, teens, young adults, adults and even seniors! With that said there is also a certain percentage of work that goes out to each of these age groups and also a certain percentage of people that are applying for these age groups. This can sometimes make it harder and sometimes easier for each person depending on their age, markets and experience level.
The best thing about starting kids out when they are young is as they get older and more experience the odds get much better.
You just have to have very realistic expectations for toddlers and young kids. I have broken it into different age categories.
Please remember these are educated guesses and can vary slightly depending on the ability of your agency, the market location and size, also some years are busier than others.
Babies and ages 1- 3 years old- In most markets 2 million and less this age group receives only between 3-5% of all the work that we book.
Of all the applicants we receive though to be promoted, 10-15% are parents who want their little ones to model.

We do occasionally book jobs but the percentages of getting booked are not as good as all of the other age categories.

It is really frustrating when we have parents who could actually book many jobs themselves with our assistance and are in an age categories 25-50 years old that that have a lot of opportunities.

When their child does book jobs the parent needs to go to the auditions with their kids and be there on the shoots if the child is booked. The other drawback is from babies to 3 years; their look changes by far the most, so a great photo that can be used to book the child becomes obsolete often after 6 months.
Usually the type of work available is an occasional print ad, family commercials, modeling shoots or Film, TV or commercial using that age range.
For Film and TV they often request identical twins.
Pay is $100-$900 per day.
For the big children's companies' ads, (Gerber, Pampers, Babies r us etc.

) You would need to actually live in the markets that shoot those ads (NY, LA Chicago etc) they usually will not fly babies to do the shoots. Sometimes the big companies will come into smaller markets and use this age group but it is fairly rare. Let's talk about each of the other groups.

Kids 4 to 12 years old- At times this can be very busy and other times very slow. There are opportunities for lifestyle photos, kids for clothing and toy ads, family commercial type shots, and lifestyle photos.
There are also occasional acting opportunities but the kids need to be very good actors and speak and read very well. In our market size, this is not an area that you can have consistent work, but if it is treated as a part-time hobby that you can make some nice money for the future..

.
this is perfect.
There are a lot of applicants so there is an amazing amount of competition for this group.

It seems every parent wants their young kids to model or have been told their kid would be a great model.
This category receives 10- 15% of the work available but we get new faces that want to apply at a rate of about 20-25% of all the applications we receive.
Teenagers age 13 to 17 years old -This age group can be very busy and sometimes a little slower depending on if the production is using a lot of teens or there is an ad campaign in town using teenagers.
The Disney films and TV series along with family features will use a ton of teens, but companies marketing their product and most commercial print studios do not use a lot of teenagers. In high-fashion markets (New York, Miami, LA, Overseas etc.

) this is a good age for models to start their career. In our markets this age group is very competitive since we receive 25-30% of all of our new faces who apply that want to belong to the agency.

Approximately 15 to 20% of the work we receive available for this age group.

Young adults 18-30 years old -This is usually the busiest age category for fashion modeling, pretty busy for commercial and lifestyle modeling and usually busy for film and TV acting.

It is fairly busy for corporate business modeling and acting. Many productions ask us for people 18 and over, especially in Union (SAG/AFTRA) made Films, TV and Commercials who look younger because they do not have to deal with as much legality.
Once someone is 18 they are no longer a minor.
This age range is fairly competitive though, we receive approximately 25-30% of all of our applicants for new faces and we book approximately 20-30% of the jobs in this age category.

Adults 30 -40 years old- This age is very good for many types of print work, especially commercial and lifestyle. It is also good for website spokesperson jobs and business spokesperson jobs.

Many roles are available for Film and TV.
Talent in this age category generally make some of the higher rates for local markets.

Approximately 20- 25% of the people apply as new talent to this group and it generally books 20-25% of all the work available Adults 40-60 years old- This can be a busy category especially for film, corporate work, commercial and lifestyle photography. This can also be a good category for pay. We receive approximately only 10-12% of all the people apply to be talent with our agency in this age group and they get 15-22% of the jobs booked, a great ratio.

The person with a good business look does very well in this category especially if they can also act. Seniors people 60 years old and up- The work ranges from lifestyle modeling ads, to film, TV and commercial work to stock photography.
Pay ranges from $100-$150 per day for extra work to $200-$1000 per day for most other jobs.
There is not as much competition as some of the other categories.
We receive about 6-10% of all our new applicants who are in this age range and surprisingly this category gets about 10-15% of all the work.

Many people are either winding down their careers or are retirees looking for some extra part time income.

A New New Year: 10 Uncommon Things To Make This One Special

This year, The Chinese New Year falls on February 3rd.

The celebration is also known as Chinese Lunar New Year.
Chinese from all over the world will be celebrating the year of the Rabbit.
When I was young, I was told that things borrowed and money owed should be returned and paid in full before the New Year.
We are not to carry forward any kind of indebtedness or grudges. For those who have not done what they have set out to do since January 1st, 2011, this is another chance for them to make the 'resolutions'.
We make a decision to celebrate Chinese New Year this year.

We have not done so for the last 20 years.

Why, the change? We have decided to embrace the good of both cultures, the East and the West.
Thus, we have the uncommon.

The word uncommon in the Oxford dictionary means unusual or remarkable.
To some, it might be tied to the word weird.
To have uncommon practices or behavior might draw attention, because they are separate from the norm and the usual or the common.
To us uncommon means: To love our neighbors as ourselves To serve and to contribute to our society To be conscious of how we spend our resources of time, talents and money To be uncompromising, relevant and alive To live a life by design not default To celebrate the uniqueness of each individual regardless of race, culture and beliefs To live a debt free life To connect and be connected Cavett Robert, the founder of National Speaker Association said: "Three billion people on the face of the earth go to bed hungry every night, but four billion people go to bed every night hungry for a simple word of encouragement and recognition.
" So, how can we make a difference in our society? Be uncommon.
Here are the 10 uncommon things we do in our family: · Do not allow ourselves to compare with the Joneses of our life.
Be contented with who we are, what we have and what we are set out to contribute in society.

The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley and William Danko has changed the way we view ourselves. · Be green.

There are many ways to live green or eco-friendly.

Do you know that almost everybody in our world, air dry their clothes? Why do we need to use dryers? I saw in Italy and New Zealand, in any seasons, they air dry clothes, even sheets and towels. New Zealand is one of the greenest countries in the world. To help safe energy and to lessen our waste, we can use proper plates and utensils instead of paper plates and Styrofoam cups. · Read. Most people do not even read books that stimulate their minds after leaving high school. 27% of adults do not read according to survey. Get out of junk fiction or magazines that are not beneficial.
· Discipline ourselves, our children and our dogs.

As a parent, discipline is not easy.

It is like doing the hard things.
Instead of taking the easy roads, we are always training ourselves to take the tough road.
Webster Dictionary defined discipline as training that develops self-control.

Do not allow your dog to 'poop' in my lawn! · Don't waste our energy chatting on the phone, face to face or online without purpose. Guard our tongue so we do not speak negatively of another.

Strictly, no gossip zone. Learn the art of encouragement and recognizing the good in the people we are in contact with each day. · Everybody is involved in a meal of the day.
For us, it will be dinner. We enjoy cooking, cleaning, preparing and planning together. Everybody learns to prepare, cook, clean, meal plan and budget. · Visit the elderly.

Go visit the elderly, bring them a meal and just sit and listen to them.

They are lonely.

· Know our why in life.
Every single family members need to know how they should function in the family unit and also their own 'why' for life. · Smile. Be the first to offer a smile to the people we meet.

It is good to offer a smile and make someone happy. There is friendliness and acceptance when we offer someone a smile.
It will also bring encouragement.

· Save money.

Watch what we spend.

Have a budget and stick with it. We need to save for rainy days.

There is always years of plenty and years of famine.

These are the 10 uncommon things we are doing this year.
Most are not new but visiting the elderly is definitely an activity we are going to pursue.

So, welcome to the uncommon.

How Do Terahertz Metamaterials Work and What Is Their Potential?

Metamaterials Metamaterials are artificial materials designed to provide control of electromagnetic waves.
While natural materials are limited in their wave refracting properties due to limitations from the size and pattern of their atoms and molecules, metamaterials' cells are made from are subwavelength metallic resonators, designed to refract electromagnetic waves.

Each metamaterial needs to behave as a homogenous material, with features smaller than the wavelength being controlled.

They have a negative refractive index, which is only achievable through artificial materials. The periodic lattice structures of such metamaterials are created to interact with light's magnetic field with a customised polarization angle.
This is currently only possible within a small area of the electromagnetic spectrum (terahertz included, a light wave placed between microwave and infrared on the spectrum), but promise has been shown in the system for developing refracting visible light.
Refraction using the split ring resonator (SRR) The most common effective unit cell from which the metamaterial is constructed is the split ring resonator (SRR). Terahertz metamaterials utilise the split ring resonator, which is made from a ring with two parallel gaps.

These rings and their gaps can be angled to provide the desired direction and angle of refraction, allowing the magnetic field through the gap, and inducing an electric current along the rings. Possible uses of metamaterials Just five years since the conception of terahertz metamaterials, research and device development in the field have come a long way, and new concepts of application are still being discovered.
Instruments which generate, detect and manipulate terahertz waves can be (and are) used within public health (including non-ionizing medical imaging and tumour detection), counter terrorism and defence (through security detection of chemicals and weapons), and manufacturing quality control and fault detection.

The ability to refract terahertz waves has opened up the potential for a huge range of applications in these fields and many more.

A development of photonic metamaterials may make it possible to manipulate optical light in the same way. The ability to control the visible light to move around an item rather than through it enables the possible development of metamaterial cloaking devices; a huge area of study dedicated to rendering something invisible to the human eye. In the field, this could be used for invisibility cloaking members of the Armed Forces (and their vehicles) from enemies.

If the light can be diverted around its object and back to its original course, the object won't even leave a shadow. This groundbreaking field of transformation optics has only recently opened up, but it also studies invisibility cloaking at microwave frequencies. The ability to refract microwaves around an object or person may, eventually, be able to make them invisible to radar.

All of these, and many more possibilities, have been made realistically possible thanks to research in terahertz metamaterials and terahertz wave generation, detection and refraction.

Mathematics, Numbers, and The Symmetry of God

The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. ~ S.
Gudder Indeed mathematics is a domain where brains get rankled and minds seem to lose their grips on reality.
Yet in this seemingly mad world, simplicity metamorphoses from complexity; normality evolves from irrationality, and order blossoms from chaos.
If you doubt these propositions, then observe the bizarre symmetry in the following numerical calculations, and then see whether you are still skeptical that God does in fact indwell numbers and mathematics.

Observe the following symmetries and enjoy! 1 x 8 + 1 = 9 12 x 8 + 2 = 98 123 x 8 + 3 = 987 1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876 12345 x 8 + 5 = 987 65 123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654 1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543 12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432 123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321 And now with the number 9: 1 x 9 + 2 = 11 12 x 9 + 3 = 111 123 x 9 + 4 = 1111 1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111 12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111 123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111 1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111 12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111 123456789 x 9 +10= 1111111111 But the number 9 has even more magic to it.
To wit: 9 x 9 + 7 = 88 98 x 9 + 6 = 888 987 x 9 + 5 = 8888 9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888 98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888 987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888 9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888 98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888 The number 1 is one of the five most important numbers in mathematics.
Not only is 1 the multiplicative identity, the number 1 dazzles us with some amazing multiplicative properties as seen in these repunits (a repunit is a number composed of all 1's): 1 x 1 = 1 11 x 11 = 121 111 x 111 = 12321 1111 x 1111 = 1234321 11111 x 11111 = 123454321 111111 x 111111 = 12345654321 1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321 11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321 After witnessing this array of number wizardry, it is hard to imagine that a supreme deity could not be supervising such magic.
Maybe if teachers implemented a little symmetric razzmatazz like this to start a class, students might perk up and listen for a change. Then true learning would have a shot at beginning and all kinds of positive results could be achieved.

After all, when God is in charge, everything else goes smoothly.

Try it out and have fun.

Work On The Skills of Observation and People-Watching!

My Granddaddy once told me that I needed to work on the skills of observation and people-watching. "Most of us are not observant and are blind to opportunities," he said. In addition, he also said that we could all learn a lot from criminals and police officers! Why criminals and police officers? Well, criminals stake out their target and take their time to get to know everything about their target's habits and its surroundings.

Criminals see opportunities, although illegal opportunities, but regardless they still see opportunities and know the perfect time to act on them.
The rest of us should be so lucky as to have this powerful sense of opportunity, timing, and total awareness of our environment.
.

. Legally, of course! Now imagine combining observation with the skill of people-watching that so many police officers have mastered.

A professional police officer can watch a group of people and know when something just isn't right.
They can spot a person wearing a jacket on a warm summer day.
Police officers notice when someone has walked by a store too many times.
Officers can sense when someone is staking out a building and thinking about robbing it.
Most police officers can read someone's body language and usually know when someone is telling the truth or not.
Now imagine we had an equal ability in the skill of people-watching as police officers.

.
.
Imagine that we could read people's body language and know when someone was telling us the truth.
That would be a helpful skill, wouldn't it? Imagine that we could spot the good apples from the bad apples among our peers and colleagues...
Wouldn't this skill help us make wiser choices in whom to befriend, date, marry, or to just plain avoid because they are nothing but trouble waiting to happen? Imagine the power we would have.
.

.
Imagine the skill we would have.

.

. Imagine the high quality of life us ordinary people could create for ourselves if we were just better at people-watching and knowing when something was wrong.
.
. or maybe even when something was really right.

.

. Now teens, and even tweens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Practice, become proficient, and work towards eventually mastering the powerful skills and secrets of success in observation and people-watching.
And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do.

Cloud Computing Is for Everyone But Not for Everything

Cloud computing is rapidly growing in popularity and general awareness, to a point where businesses of all sizes are looking into whether the medium is appropriate for their needs.
So, what sort of businesses can cloud hosting effectively and securely handle? The simple answer is - all of them. From small business hosting to larger corporations, cloud computing can make your business more affordable and versatile.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean it should replace all of your existing hosting solutions. The best way to approach cloud hosting is to see it not as an all-or-nothing proposition, but as a way to streamline your IT requirements at appropriate points. Examine all of the functions of your current hosting solution and think about whether it could benefit from multi-tenant cloud computing, in-house hosting or a combination of the two.
A major benefit of taking a hybrid approach to hosting is that you can cut your overheads on IT, storage and general maintenance, without taking too much of a risk.

Until cloud computing evolves to a point where it is the norm, an innovative, open-minded approach to hybrid hosting could give you a significant advantage over your rivals who are slower to pick up on new opportunities.

One of the most common concerns with cloud hosting is the idea that it is less secure and reliable than in-house hosting. In truth, cloud hosting is generally very secure, and far more data breaches take place in corporate data centres than among hosting providers.

But nevertheless, there are instances where, for the time being, companies may wish to exercise a note of caution.
For example, from small business hosting to larger corporations, a great many businesses avoid using public cloud computing for extremely sensitive financial information, or anything that requires compliance with the rules of the Payment Card Industry (PCI). Quite often, solutions which need to meet strict security and compliance specifications are best housed on private cloud solutions.

Another option is to combine multi-tenant cloud hosting with a broader kind of cloud computing - wherein traditional managed hosting is performed on servers that are dedicated to specific customers, but are owned and managed by a hosting provider.
Top-line hosting providers are generally more reliable and secure than in-house data centres, and can still cut down your IT overheads significantly.
If you are interested in engaging with cloud hosting and would like some more information, talk to a dedicated and reputable hosting company to find out what package would be best suited to your business. The natural versatility of cloud hosting allows for a tailored hosting package to be constructed around the unique needs of your business, so don't be afraid to shop around to find out as much as you can before committing to a plan.
It could be one of the most important decisions you make for your business. Rackspace Hosting is the World's leader in hosting and cloud storage.

Since 2001 Rackspace has been hosting and supporting mission critical websites, internet applications, email servers, security and storage services for 6,000 customers.
